Today is the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution. I remember watching this event on the news as a kid. The liberation of Europeans from the oppression of fascism took over 50 years until Portugal, Spain, Greece and Turkey were free in the 70s and 80s.

I open twitter this morning and see that our latest manuscript is available to read. I should not be surprised because I uploaded it on Friday. We discover that GIGANTEA is required for circadian clocks to work in wheat

Our Dean wants to recruit a bunch of superstars (or emerging superstars) in ANY area of research broadly aligned with the Faculty of Science. Personally, want that to include (plant) biologists.

Editors of Frontiers journals are in a strong position to take a collective stand right now. When these journals started they had value with effective peer review. The brand has become a joke. Either Frontiers makes a radical change in approach or there should be mass resignation

What a sad list of plant science research institute closures in the UK this millennium. Constantly as plant scientists we have to fight to remain as a discipline and to be recognised for our contribution to well-being and excellent biological research.
