Not sure I buy the IFS analysis that Labour’s package of worker rights will mostly be passed through to workers via lower wages. There are a number of issues that the note hasn't engaged with and, in their absence, the prediction of wage effects is in my view not substantiated.🧵

Removing the 2-child cap would do more than any other single measure to reduce child poverty and health/education inequalities. Hope the taskforce comes to a resounding recommendation that empowers the government to act, despite the notable omission in Labour's manifesto.

Fascinating new polling from Afrobarometer that seems to show democracy is only valued where it delivers. Food for thought for the progressive realists among us in the development world thetimes.com/world/africa/a…

Incredible scenes from Dhaka over the last few days. We usually hear a positive story of development in Bangladesh but this piece from Fahmida Khatun explains how the government failed to make sure ordinary people saw the benefits of growth thedailystar.net/opinion/views/…

Interesting analysis of Labour’s fractious coalition that voted against the direction of decline in July and the need to now unite voters around a the govt’s vision for delivery. Worth reading the full piece from Tony Blair Institute for Global Change for the full polling institute.global/insights/polit…

Everyone saying “no we can’t let the NHS use a proper joined up digital patient database, it’s all part of a plot to privatise British healthcare and sell your data” should be forced to read the dozens (hundreds?) of case studies like these bbc.co.uk/news/health-67…

Quality early years provision is a crucial tool to make society more equal and support communities. In my piece for Renewal I talk about why we have to make more than just an economic case for childcare.

What does progressive tech policy look like? In our piece for the The Fabian Society Sasjkia Otto and I are optimistic about the UK's future as a tech power - as long as we proceed with a healthy dose of scepticism about the status quo and refuse to abandon our progressive values.
