Good paper (+ summary / comments from Murat) about storage-disaggregated databases. I found the explanation of the 6 architectures (monolithic all the way to a pretty sophisticated disaggregation) very helpful to understand what's happening here

Working with the great folks at Scylla (+ Miles Ward!) to talk DynamoDB cost optimization! Come hear why I love the DynamoDB pricing model so much and how you should use it to your advantage :)

This was a very good episode. David Behroozi is a hoot Good to get the backstory on Cognito (I did not recall that Identity Pools came before User Pools!). Very useful stuff on surviving + thriving at AWS. Plus a nice explanation of the badge colors 🍷

I caught up with the one and only dax. Talked about the new SST Ion engine -- what are the benefits, what's the migration like, etc. Also was pumped to get his thoughts on a ton of different dev tools and services. Dax is legit, and I trust his opinion. Check it out 🫡

Hey! You! #GOTOEDADay #Warsaw is only one month away! Do you have your tickets yet? Now is the time to register -> s12d.com/eda-warsaw Not sure what it is? EDA is event driven architectures. This is how companies like Amazon, Lego, CapitalOne, RyanAir and so many others

“EBS is capable of delivering more IOPS to a single instance today than it could deliver to an entire Availability Zone (AZ) in the early years” Wild!

So great to talk w/ noted basketball coach Aaron Francis. Lots of tech stuff (SQLite! PHP! Databases!) but also business stuff + some life stuff. From what I can tell, Aaron is super high agency, and that's one of the top 1-2 skills I want my kids to have. Check it out :)

I want with all my heart to teach my kids to be high agency. I don't super care what they do, just that they grow up knowing they can just do things. This was a great interview that started as a conversation about databases and ended with thoughts on agency. Please go listen!

Between this and Josh Pigford's society.fail yesterday, it's getting pretty wild what you can do without writing any code yourself in a brand new domain.

A few weeks ago I flew to Boise to hang out with Nathan Barry in the new ConvertKit → Soon to be Kit studios. We talked all about the launch of the SQLite course, and how to turn this thing into a sustainable business. It was wildly helpful and super fun!

After four years away from re:Invent, I'm doing three breakout sessions this year. On the architecture track, I'm going to be talking about the patterns behind resilient systems, simulation, and automated reasoning.
