Each release like this is such a compete humiliation and indictment of Meta, which pioneered open-weight LLMs with the first Llama model introduced in February of 2023. They’ve likely invested 100x to 1000x the resources (money, compute, PhD headcount, square footage, etc.) on

You can now run Kimi K2 Thinking locally with our Dynamic 1-bit GGUFs! We shrank the 1T model to 245GB (-62%) & retained ~85% of accuracy. Run on 247GB RAM. We also worked with the Kimi team on a system prompt fix. Guide: docs.unsloth.ai/models/kimi-k2… GGUF: huggingface.co/unsloth/Kimi-K…

Every autistic person I know loves AI. Many of them use LLMs more than anyone else I've seen - and find it incredibly useful in their personal and professional lives. I think it's weird we don't talk about this more.

Yeah, AI progress is totally, definitely stalling... Look at MathArena Apex. GPT-5.1 scored 1%. Gemini 3 scored 23%. That is a >20x jump on one of the hardest reasoning tasks we have. But sure, keep your head in the sand...

Two obvious takeaways: 1. The US Federal Government needs to stop underwriting college loans immediately. 2. Too many people are entering into a financial quagmire they will never pay off to get a degree that increasingly has little to no value.

chinese tokenizes more efficiently than english. even gpt o1-pro used to switch to chinese midway on complex queries. there is more information density with specificity in chinese. let’s say in english, the word ‘cell’ could mean cell membrane or battery, but in chinese there are

Buying $FCX for Grasberg in 2025 is buying Mitchell Energy for East Texas Woodbine in 1997. Nobody sees the sulfide leach revolution coming, but it's geologically inevitable. Follow the cathode!

Reserve currency privilege let the U.S. export inflation and live beyond its means. Lose that status and inflation comes back home. Fast. The public has no idea what’s coming.

I think the playbook is low policy rates, lax banking regs, contiguous fiscal policy, and hopefully, a mechanically weaker dollar. All would be good for growth. The same truth about uranium holds for copper and tin. Each has been resilient.

By volume & absolute magnitude of electricity consumption, aluminum deserves its reputation as "congealed electricity". But from a electricity/ton perspective, aluminum is hardly the only congealed electricity commodity. From my "The Aluminum Tech Stack" piece a few weeks ago:
