Swift nest boxes have just gone up on The Swan in Southwold, kindly funded by the AONB @SuffolkAONB Swifts nest naturally above the nest boxes beneath the roof tiles so Swift calls won’t be needed. This colony now has nest space to expand into. Suffolk Bird Group SuffolkWildlifeTrust

Today is the anniversary of the Battle of Sole Bay, which took place in 1672. It must have been an astonishing sight off the coast of Southwold. It’s accurately depicted on the sign of The Sole Bay Inn, meticulously captured by our amazing sign writer Dave Barber.

The Gardens Trust Food Museum And finally, The Walled Garden at the Royal Hospital School in Holbrook, Suffolk is now Grade II listed. 🧱 The country estate walled garden has a distinctive curving ‘crinkle-crankle’ wall which used few bricks in response to the Brick Tax (in place from 1784 to 1850).
