Reeves boasted a “new golden era for hospitality with permanently lower tax rates for over 750,000 retail, hospitality and leisure properties”. However, on same day a separate government agency slipped out a new, much higher assessment of business rates

Front page and this injustice is escalating across all media. The Chancellors stealth tax could result in up to 30,000 Hospitality closures. The Gov’t urgently need to review Business Rates.

It’s a big relief that the Government is going to do a U-turn on the #pubs #BusinessRatesBetrayal but we need to see what the detail is. Hats off to all #publicans, campaigners & MPs who have challenged this, but whatever the concession is, the flawed revaluation must be scrapped

Publicans have made themselves heard by GOV.UK ✊🍻 We now need proper consultation on next steps, which must include grassroots Rates-payer voices. #SMEs are the backbone of our sector. We need a fundamental change to the unfair Valuation Office Agency system that unfairly penalises #pubs.
