Frank Auerbach, the great post war painter, has died. A Berliner, he arrived in the UK as an 8yr old on the Kindertransport, his parents murdered in Auschwitz. His numerous portraits of a handful of sitters recreate the sense of family lost to him, about whom he never spoke.

Little known fact. Margaret Thatcher was once in a band with Bobby Ball and Curly Watts from Coronation Street. If only they'd been a success, it would haved saved us all from years of misery.
