Huge opportunity for Colorado… A newly introduced bill, SB24-230, proposes a fee on oil and gas production to fund public transit service—linking a key source of climate and ozone pollution with a key solution. nrdc.org/bio/alana-mill…

This is objectively good news, but I also have to note the city of San Diego is planning to widen the roads around these homes and this trolley station to accommodate more cars.

A $40 million project (cost will have gone up by now) to *theoretically* save drivers 22 seconds.

When we require excess amounts of parking, we needlessly drive up the cost of housing and make it harder to build in already developed areas, spurring more sprawl. HB1304 seeks to mitigate the harm of parking minimums Great work from Senator Nick Hinrichsen 🇺🇸🔰 Kevin Priola 🇺🇸

By enabling more frequent & convenient bus & rail service, this effort will assure Coloradans have cleaner air, get to where they need to go, save $, spend less time stuck in traffic, and enjoy a healthier & more affordable future! When OR removed parking minimums, parking was built & so was more housing. One vacant lot became 98 housing units; affordable housing that didn’t pencil out before could now; a fourplex installed 5 spots instead of 7 & included a children’s play area. Thanks @[email protected].

Jurisdictions have found parking minimums to be one of the most significant levers to building more housing, along with more density near transit. Analysis by Colorado Energy Office finds would more than double the number of feasible infill housing opportunities in urban areas

CO's public utilities commission issued a landmark decision for Xcel, the state's largest utility, which will scale down fossil infrastructure. The ruling finds that BAU gas investments are “no longer acceptable nor in the best interest of ratepayers.' nrdc.org/bio/kiki-velez…

The number of bicycle retailers participating in the state E-bike tax credit program has grown tremendously - from 14 when the program started to 80 today, and more can join throughout the year. See the list below to save $450 on an E-bike! docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d…

Here's an excellent graphic showing the impact of removing minimum parking mandates.

The results:
- Still plenty of parking
- Fewer empty parking spaces
- More housing
- Other mobility options instead of just car storage.

One of CO's most important (yet unassuming) climate bills, 1304 to remove parking mandates, passed the House today! Kudos to House sponsors Vigil & Woodrow! Excessive parking mandates raise the price of housing, promote sprawl & drive up GHGs: nrdc.org/bio/alana-mill…

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg visited Denver today to see a project repairing harm done by an interstate that bisected a community of color. I asked him if he thinks about which infrastructure decisions today will be viewed unfavorably by future generations.

In 2023, Coloradans drove 3% fewer miles than they did in 2019.

3% down, 17% to go! For perspective, a 20% VMT reduction would mean the average Coloradan drives 21 miles per day instead of 26. Sounds good, right?

To achieve this, we need to enable non-driving options like

A quick update on where we are with vehicle miles traveled (VMT) reduction in Colorado.

First, to meet our transportation GHG targets, RMI says that by 2030, the US needs 70 million EVs on the road AND a 20% reduction in per capita VMT below 2019 levels.

Reducing the cost of e-bikes by $450 will save Coloradans money and help reduce traffic for everyone. I’m excited that so many Coloradans will save money not only when buying an e-bike, but also spend less money on gas because sometimes they will be able to get where they want to
