I can not believe this. This issue runs deeper, & the impacts much wider for everyone working in neuroscience in 🇦🇺. Speaks volumes of how discovery science on the brain is valued in this country. The slippery slope downhill just keeps getting steeper. Lucky country you say?

Sadistic practice announcing the dissolution of the Eccles Neuroscience Department in the middle of the Brain Awareness Week. Academic staff at Eccles whose job will be terminated: - Level E: 4 positions - Lv D: 2 - Lv C: 1 - Lv B: 6 - Lv A: 8 + students. Devastating.

Also, isn;t it great the way we treat our scientific giants with such reverence in Australia?. The Eccles Institute is named after John Eccles, awarded the Nobel for Medicine/Physiology in 1963 for absolutely fundamental insight into how our nervous system works.

Very sad day for neuroscience in Australia. The Australian National University has announced its intention to shut down neuroscience at the same institution where John Eccles and his many collaborators did their ground-breaking work. #saveEccles abc.net.au/news/2021-03-1…

Completely shocked by this. I was taught by, and worked alongside, some of the best neuroscientists in the world here. We need a better solution.
