A Gallup poll showed that of ALL professions, TEACHERS were least likely to say their opinion counts & least likely to say that their supervisors create an open & sharing environment. Leaders, don't be afraid to seek input and feedback if you want a committed staff this year.

Teachers… I wonder what your students are coping with at home this weekend. Principals… I wonder what your staff is coping with at home this weekend. It will matter when we see them on Monday.

The culture of a school is created by everyone in the school. Walk in a school and see how the front office staff talks and interacts or the custodians or teachers in the hallway. But admin is the thermostat that makes everyone feel valued, supported and appreciated.

Teachers and staff, never take for granted an administration who inspire and motivate you to be your best and support you in the pursuit. Let these leaders know they are appreciated.

Administrators who are unsuccessful, are so because they don't make relationships & staff morale a priority. Even if you didn't need a pat on the back doesn't mean it's not effective. Support, encourage, and appreciate your staff. Affirmation is the language of most teachers!

When a leader is unwilling to accept feedback from those they lead, they are exhibiting a fixed mindset. This may be due to a confidence issue, stage in their career, or a belief that feedback is negative. But we should always be looking to improve our leadership (growth mindset)

It takes time to become a highly effective teacher. It also takes time to become a highly effective leader. Both need patience, support, encouragement, praise and effective mentoring.

Teachers who are passionate, on the ball, sometimes outspoken and have high expectations in the classroom, also have the same expectations of their leaders. Effective leaders embrace these staff members because they know together they make each other better! #IronSharpensIron

You don’t need an office at the front of the school to be a leader. Every person in the building can lead in their own right when given a chance.

Culture Building Tip: Staff mtgs are a great place to model what you want classrooms to look like. How can we ask T’s to increase engagement if our faculty mtgs are sit and get? Model what you expect! Then have the staff complete an observation form on you! #multiplyexcellence

It's nearly impossible to raise standards, expectations, or achievement w/o first raising morale. Morale has to be the priority. It drives success by increasing productivity, engagement, attention to detail, commitment and it helps reduce disengagement and turnover.

People don’t want trinkets, puns or Zoom yoga classes. They want time. Time to live their lives outside of school or time to get some work done. Time that belongs to them. Cancel a meeting, cover a class or duty. That’s how you show appreciation - you respect people’s time.

A school where every person, no matter their role, can bring their authentic self to work everyday, is a school that is going to thrive. Authenticity is a superpower.

Teachers, Don’t be discouraged if you do things differently than others. It’s ok to learn from others but don’t think you’re wrong if you do it differently. Everyone has their own strengths, talents, & passions. Just bring your best self. That's what your students need.
