seriously though why is Austin lapping every other city on pro-housing policy (I know why: it’s because they elected a ton of YIMBY politicians)

It's crazy how almost every zoning law is not only bad, but backwards. We shouldn't have setbacks, we should have alignments. We shouldn't have minimum lot sizes, we should have maximum lot sizes. We shouldn't have bedroom maximums, we should have bedroom minimums. Etc., etc.

Common sense road diet recently completed by Pico Rivera 🔥 - 80 redundant feet --> concrete bike lanes with landscaping, turn lanes, and angled parking!

Courtyard urbanism is not a niche subject! It's an intersectional field that studies how block organization affects health outcomes, family formation, and cultural and economic activity.

Never forget, a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users. ALL ROAD USERS. And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all. For sharrows, it’s actually safer to NOT have them. usa.streetsblog.org/2019/05/29/pro…

"if you ask Americans about transportation they probably won’t imagine a train; they’ll picture our 280M cars that have carved up cities, made transportation the top source of emissions, and given us a crash death rate higher than other rich nations" bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

"Bikes are good for business" case studies aren't new. NYC was an early adopter of protected bike lanes and started tracking the outcomes right away. After 8th & 9th Avenue projects were complete, locally-based businesses saw retail sales soar. Bike are good for business!

Will never recover from the fact that 1950s Cincinnati looked at neighborhoods like this and said: “What if we demolished 75% of it for parking lots and warehouses?” Absolutely tasteless and demonic.
