Lots of Siskins moving at the moment, attracted to feeders with c150 trapped and ringed in Feb . Hope for some re-encounters from the Scottish ringers. I had one ringed as juv August 2021 at Peebles, on the Scottish Borders. On his way home now😎 Cheshire & Wirral Ornithological Society C & W BIRD NEWS

A morning spent refurbishing a few nest boxes at my Pied Flycatcher/Redstart sites in east Cheshire. Was rewarded by a male PF in song over one of the boxes. Very early arrival ⁦Cheshire & Wirral Ornithological Society⁩ #BTO nesting.neighbours

done my first check for Pied Flycatchers at a private woodland near Bosley, Only 5 boxes with laying birds plus a Redstart. Few empty boxes, others occupied by Blue Tits, usually only 5 pairs in 50 boxes, now 15! One box not a mossy tit box but grass and feathers. Ideas?

First breaths. Minutes hatched, still wet Common Tern chick. So small, so vulnerable, yet Hopefully the start of an epic journey of survival and migration. nesting-neighbours BTO.org

Last one I saw was 10 years ago at Acre Nook. A difficult to catch up with for one’s Cheshire list. Must have missed you on site.

It won’t change its primaries/secondaries until it finishes breeding, if it survives the autumn/ winter next year. It will only moult underparts and some coverts this year. It won’t moult its tail either.

Here are different ways to limit the kill rate of your cat. A recent figure from the Mammal Society estimates that cats in the UK catch up to 27 millions birds each year, and 275 million prey items overall per year. discoverwildlife.com/animal-facts/m…

Not a bird I expected to add to my Cheshire and Wirral list ! Great organisation as ever at BMW RSPB by Graham Jones and his team. Plus Lots of smiling familiar faces in the Border Hide! Gotta love those black axillaries 😎

Same here Phil, after a really good multiple nests and fledgling success, I am not just not seeing Blackbirds around my local patch. Yet berry bearing bushes and trees are looking loaded. ?

Same in the NW. downgraded various reserve’s on financial grounds, closing additional facilities. Despite increased footfall. A clear financial move by the RSPB. Doubt they will come clean and explain all.

Finally managed to design a pole mounted suitable tray style live meal worm feeder out of Perspex window feeders with detachable trays and suitable BTO section-able poles. ⁦⁦Cheshire & Wirral Ornithological SocietyBTO
