Unfortunately, Jim Schutze suffers from a bad case of "San Francisco Syndrome": an inability to recognize the impact of his own actions while maintaining absolute faith in his ostensibly liberal and welcoming values.

We have to look at some of our building regulations as arbitrary. Why does a building have to have 20 ft setbacks that run up the entire length of the building preventing balconies? Why do we regulate the facade of a building? WHO DECIDED FLOOR AREA RATIO WAS GOING TO BE A THING?

NIMBY-ism wasn't mentioned once. Nor was the need for urban infill housing. Why Too Few Homes Get Built in the U.S. nytimes.com/2024/08/22/bri…

This is a common misconception about YIMBYs like me- that we have no theory of power in political economy. We actually do though. Or at least I do (I probably shouldn’t claim to speak for others). Here’s my YIMBY theory of power. 1/

Warms my heart to see the new Curb Management Policy go into effect. Modest impact now but will be increasingly important if/when Dallas passes parking reform.

NEW: Conservative hotelier Monty Bennett and a California-based company that offers protesters-for-hire have seeded an “astroturf” right-wing influence network that has kicked into overdrive to push controversial “Dallas HERO” city charter amendments. 1/ texasobserver.org/dallas-hero-in…

A new ingenious use for all those mailers about Prop S, T, & U from Keep Dallas Safe and The Dallas Express News. They were really starting to pile up and I couldn't decide whether to trash them or use them to light my grill.

Sowing: Local leaders designing local elections to have as low turnout as possible. Reaping: Local leadership has no influence on local issues during national elections. At least Proposition D passed, which would allow us to begin changing our broken local election system.

I refuse to use "market rate" and "affordable" to describe housing anymore. They are basically just propaganda, and the public does not understand what they mean. We should instead say "normal" housing and "wait listed" housing, to accurately reflect what they are.
