Real-world evidence -> probiotic associated with lower mortality, but not lower NEC Stands in contrast to Donor Human Milk -> reduces NEC but not mortality = Different (1) disease mechanisms (2) actions of interventions Emphasising "NEC" is not single disease

Just finished presenting our study on continuous transcutaneous CO₂ monitoring in VLBW infants at #PAS2025! Thank you for joining the Clinical Pulmonology 2 session. It was a great experience! #neotwitter

Thank you to all the amazing pediatricians, residents, and fellows we met at #PAS2025! We’re grateful to be part of this incredible community. Thanks for stopping by to chat — and we can’t wait to see you next year at the Pediatric Academic Societies in Boston!

Love this. Sometimes the simple approach lets you see the forest for the trees. For every case of probiotic sepsis more than a school bus load of children avoid death or NEC. There are complicated trade offs in Neonatology. This is probably the least complicated. #neotwitter

Despite use of ultrasound for lumbar puncture, what I was told as a 1st year resident may be more important. Ensure the baby is positioned well! Signif assoc of success w/ absence of pt movements (odds ratio [OR]: 6.40; 95% CI: 1.53-26.8) pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40322783/ #neotwitter

Less than 8% of infants included in RCTs that guide our practice are born <25 weeks’ gestation. We MUST change this - it is no longer acceptable to specifically exclude the smallest or sickest babies from trials. #neotwitter ⁦⁦Most Premature Babies Priority Setting Partnership⁩ pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39613140/

Evidence-based medicine: in past posts we have discussed 'Zombie' and 'GENIE' interventions. Today I learned about 'sacred deer', interventions that are so widely accepted as being effective that even questioning them is thought to be inappropriate.

🎉 We’re very happy to share our latest publication! Early use of a laryngeal mask in neonatal difficult airway scenarios significantly reduced time to effective ventilation in a randomized simulation study. Now online in Arch Argent P. 🔗 doi.org/10.5546/aap.20… #neotwitter

For first airway attempt in a difficult airway, are you using the little mask (laryngeal mask, LM)? Shouldn't you? This study showed those that did achieved effective ventilation faster. sap.org.ar/docs/publicaci… Evidence-Based Neo Neonatal Resuscitation Symposium NANN The Incubator Podcast

Kudos to the team 🇧🇷🇦🇷 creative making of a difficult airway. They induced macroglossia in the Laerdal Global Health SimNewB by injecting more silicone in the tongue.

Nash was born right at 21 weeks—133 days premature—making him the world’s most premature baby, according to Guinness World Records. And although he weighed just 10 ounces, he was big enough for our team’s smallest life-saving equipment. 💛 uihc.pulse.ly/7liw4a1ce1
