You really, really should not be relying on AI detectors for classroom use. This new paper shows that not only are they very easy to defeat by just prompting a couple of times, but they have insane false-positive rates against non-native English speakers. arxiv.org/abs/2304.02819

The dead horse I will continue to beat: instructors cannot detect AI writing reliably: 1) Detectors don’t work & accuse non-native speakers of cheating👇 2) You can’t ask AI to detect AI writing, it will hallucinate 3) If you “use your gut” you are going to used biased heuristics

Keep thinking about the opportunity costs associated with AI integration in teaching and learning practices. I have mainly focused my work on all the benefits of AI, haven't paid enough attention on what we potentially lose. Is anyone writing about this specifically?
