Excited to share our new paper out today in Current Biology! We explore how Cayo Santiago monkeys changed their social dynamics in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria Coauthored w/ Lauren Brent Michael Platt NYU Primatology Noah Snyder-Mackler et. al. bit.ly/3dNkmbE (1/16) 🧵👇

Open call for a PhD position on my Swiss National Science Foundation project. Topic: evolutionary primatology with focus on acoustic analysis of calls. Four years. Fully funded. Université Neuchâtel. Switzerland. Collab with Adriano R. Lameira. Gonna be so cool. Please spread the word. drive.google.com/file/d/1FSttWl…

🚨New study on primate vocal learning and the potential role of mentally representing social events to acquire communicative competence by Klaus Zuberbühler, Julián León, Adwait Deshpande (Adwait Deshpande ), and Fredy Quintero (@FredyQu62432999). Open Access: sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

🚨How do non-human primates learn to use alarm calls? New study using field experiments by Adwait Deshpande , @MonkeyologistB, and Klaus Zuberbühler on how vervet monkeys socially learn to respond to predator models and use alarm calls. OA available here: royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rs…

🚨 Do vervet monkeys have context-dependent alarm responses? New study by Adwait Deshpande , Erica van de Waal, and Klaus Zuberbühler using field experiments to test how vervet monkeys react to alarm calls produced in intergroup vs. non-intergroup situations: link.springer.com/article/10.100… 1/3

Out now in Journal of Animal Ecology! A general approach for using drones to study animal behavior in the wild. Record the location and posture of many animals simultaneously at sub-second sub-meter resolution, plus reconstruct their 3D landscape: doi.org/10.1111/1365-2…

I am very happy to have this method out in Journal of Animal Ecology! Congrats to @Ben_Koger and all our co-authors! We developed this approach to facilitate studies of #collectivebehavior in wild populations, for systems & questions that are hard to address using existing methods.

Consumer drones and machine learning enables research of group living animals, from zebras to gelada monkeys, in their natural social and environmental context at sub-meter and sub-second resolution. More amazing content from this study! The video highlights different scales at which authors quantified individuals in a zebra herd, from large scale movements to fine scale individual animal posture, in a social context.@ben_kogerv Adwait Deshpande Jake Graving @BlairCostelloe.bsky.social Iain Couzin

Into the wild... 🐺: With the advent of cutting edge technology, Adwait Deshpande from MPI-AB is on Bluesky @mpi-animalbehav.bsky.social and Centre for the Adv Study of Collective Behaviour Universität Konstanz begun the groundwork to study the collective behaviour of Indian Grey #Wolves The Grasslands Trust using #drones and #AI tools. exc.uni-konstanz.de/collective-beh…

Awesome finale that Jeff Kerby's image made the Journal of Animal Ecology cover in support of our method using drones to study animals in their natural social and physical landscapes! Adwait Deshpande Jake Graving @BlairCostelloe.bsky.social Iain Couzin great team!
