I think my friend bOb cOeCke’s advertising is paying off. Time to study up on ZX-calculus. It’s string diagrams for quantum mechanics!

Very proud of this guy who successfully defended his thesis on “The structure and Higher Representation Theory of Odd Categorified sl(2)”.

A four-dimensional universe may sound like science fiction, but it’s actually a mathematical extension of our 3D reality 😱. USC Dornsife's Aaron Lauda is leading a major initiative to study it. Learn more: bit.ly/3Kq8ZIq #Math Month

We had a great turn out at the Canada–Mexico–US Conference in Representation Theory, Noncommutative Algebra, and Categorification at the Centre de Recherches Mathematiques in Montreal. We may need to find a shorter name to stay inside the character limit. Thanks to U.S. National Science Foundation

Very happy to have this one out. Should be some exciting interactions between stable homotopy theory and categorification. Special congrats to postdoc Anne Dranowski and Meng Guo who are both on the market. arxiv.org/abs/2402.11368

This was a fun paper where we started off trying to do topological quantum computation and ended up proving a new result about the classical Burau representation. arxiv.org/abs/2402.13242

Quantum computing could transform medicine, energy, and AI. But qubits are unstable, error-prone, and hard to tame. Simons Foundation & USC found a fix - in a particle others had thrown away. today.usc.edu/mathematicians…

There are only about 100 quantum computers in the world. At USC Viterbi School, Daniel Lidar is making them reliable enough to transform medicine, energy, logistics, and more. viterbischool.usc.edu/news/2025/08/l…
