This really is crucial - I feel there is a growing belief, encouraged by some Con MPs and parts of the right wing press - that 'they' (foreign students) are taking 'our kids places'. This is not just wrong, it is upside down - 'they' are *funding* 'our kids' places.

In 2019 & 2021, the govt instructed universities 'to increase the number of international HE students hosted in the UK to 600k per year', to 'increase the value of our education exports'.

When you punish unis for implementing govt policy, maybe gloating isn't the right response?

You paid for a big slice of this department. You paid for the training, the disciplinary infrastructure, the research these experts do. Someone else is chucking all your money in the bin. I'd complain if I were you. 👇
