People do not realize the importance of #SVB to the tech ecosystem. SVB's failure is the beginning of a domino effect in tech & start-ups. SVB works with more than half of all U.S. startups and is the preeminent provider of venture debt in the industry. news.crunchbase.com/venture/silico…
What a joke! Know these guys personally. Their ethics are exemplary and also in my opinion was the most experienced team Yasir Suleman Memon
1/I thought long & hard abt saying anything abt the recent Pakistan startup failures/pivots, friends like Shehryar Hydri & Faisal Aftab have already been v wise so I wasn't going to weigh in, but I've been too pissed off by the many naysayers & the *gotcha* folks to stay quiet. 🧵
2/ I've been a VC investor for ~ 4 yrs w/ i2i Ventures -- say what u want abt venture capital (trust me, I have), but our impact in just 4 yrs as investors has been > or = to my 8 yrs prior, building the PK startup space via Invest2Innovate. Why? Venture $ *can* be catalytic/
5/ a startup can fail. What's imp to take away from the shut down of MEDZnMORE or the pivot of Jugnu (which ppl are weirdly reacting to as if it's a failure), or the past Airlift closure or the TAG debacle is *failure is not a monolith.* it sometimes/ insights.datadarbar.io/exclusive-medz…
1/I find the public response to Jugnu's pivot to be a little misguided, likely fueled by the frankly irresponsibly reported ProPakistani piece. The decision by the Jugnu founders to pivot away from an asset heavy model during a funding desert is smart -- it's something a LOT/
2/ of op intensive biz r doing, they just aren't publicly announcing it. For those w/ pitchforks, u only know a sliver of real story. We've always thought Yasir Suleman Memon & Sharoon Saleem were thoughtful founders - proud of them for talking abt this pivot openly for others to learn.
