We are grateful that ADDICTION Conference 2021 was a resounding success. But, the hard work starts now, we must work to realise the resolutions that came from the conference so that we can ignite the movement for change towards towards destigmatisation and effective treatment.

There were many positive outcomes from the ADDICTION Conference 2021. One of the resolutions reached to drive practical solutions and enable effective treatment that is tailor-made for our country and continent, was to address the gaps in data and surveillance. #ADDICTION2021

A powerful resolution to effectively reduce stigma was reached at ADDICTION Conference 2021, and this is to move away from punishment towards a public health approach. #ADDICTION2021

We have the responsibility to create inclusive and comprehensive prevention and treatment strategies. At #ADDICTION2021 the resolution was reached that improving evidence-based practices in the treatment of people using substances, will go along way in achieving that.

Addressing dual diagnosis, co-occurring disorders and behavioural addictions must, among others, be prioritised to find responsive and individualised solutions to tackle addiction. #ADDICTION2021

To trigger the ethical, professional and effective management of substance use and co-occurring disorders, capacity within in the treatment community requires a serious boost. #ADDICTION2021

To transform the treatment landscape and break the stigma around of addiction disorders, prevention services should be re-positioned as a science. #ADDICTION2021

To bolster progression in finding evidence-based, tailor-made solutions for substance use disorders in Africa, the public and private sector must consolidate their efforts. #ADDICTION2021

To drive change in the way substance use disorders are managed, adoption of best practice policies and legislation must be facilitated. #ADDICTION2021 #health #wellness #wellbeing #change
