A book containing some of my poems translated into English will be released soon. It is a collaboration with the Poetry Translation Centre (PTC) and Martin Orwin, who did the translation, funded by English PEN.

The Somali term for honour is “dheg,” which also means ear—as if the message is: Your honour is what you hear about yourself, an extension of yourself just like your ears. Therefore, it is crucial to be attentive from anything that may bring dishonour—“dhegxumo” (lit. mal-ear).

Banning “Islam, Authoritarianism, and Underdevelopment” by Ahmet T. Kuru in Malaysia shuts down important conversations we need to have. Progress comes from open dialogue, not censorship. It’s crucial for authorities to rethink this decision & support intellectual freedom.
