Plants require nutrients in order to grow. This nutrients comes from microorganisms living in the soil. Their job is to break down old plant matter into nutrients and help aerate the soil for the plants. Check out this article written by Ruth Blomquist for more information!

Hey growers! Check your tomato plants for small fingerlings on the sides of your plants. This is called "Tomato Stem Primordia" and is caused by overwatering or high humidity. Check out this link and photo for more information about this phenomenon. veggiegardener.com/threads/tomato…

With no rain and hot days scheduled in the forecast, it's important to water your plants more than usual. To keep the plants cool, try adding a layer of mulch, grass clippings or straw to cover up your bare soil and keep your water with your plants. Happy growing!

With the record high temperatures today, the conditions outside can be very unpleasant. Today, we decided to look at the temperatures of the soil in different areas of our growing space to see how our straw, grass and bare dirt are holding up to the weather outside.

Soil's Tip of the Day! Is your ground peeling over like this image? This is caused by the the wacky weather we've been having. After it rains, the water is collected by the soil. Then, when it become hotter, the water is evaporated from the soil, leaving the soil to peel away!

Start thinking about adding cover crops to your garden. We advise that your winter kill cover crops should be planting as soon as possible, but it's not too late to still get yourself a winter hardy cover crop. These should be in within the next month to establish before frost!
