Do you know how terrible an article and how wrong the textbook experts quoted need to be to prompt me to log in to this hellsite right now? This terrible and this wrong: bbc.com/news/health-66… "Changing nature of Covid: Is it just a regular winter bug now?"

What’s even more frustrating is the idea college in prison needs to prove itself in these ways in the first place. Yes all these studies are deeply flawed and mostly dumb. But it’s also stupid and frankly racist and classist to think we need more and better studies. 🧵

The assumption is that people in prison are inherently criminal and in need of some kind of treatment to be cured of their criminality. They are asking if ed can treat criminality/is the best way to fix ppl. But college in prison isn’t just another prison “program” it’s —college.

Never in my life has anyone ever asked for evidence that my Bard education worked or questioned it’s worth or value but at Bard Prison Initiative and across the field we are asked this all the time. And in fact the Yale Policy Lab *does* have a rigorous examination of CIP on recidivism. But…

The fact that Yale (Tynes/Denny) showed that Bard Prison Initiative students have better chances of staying out of prison the more credits/degrees they amass doesn’t mean college should be seen as criminogenic treatment. It means real college access does all the things we expect of college.

Bard Prison Initiative I totally get wanting to show off one’s own research prowess (ie one’s own higher education—yay!!) but next time ask yourself — before you ever get to research methods— if the very questions you are asking are the right ones. Are these questions you’d be asking of your own ed …

Bard Prison Initiative … or that of your children? If not, they probably aren’t the right questions. If, on the other hand, we are ready to have a conversation about why criminal justice reform orgs are getting grants to evaluate what we in higher ed are doing, now that’s a question worth asking.

As we navigate the fourth winter of this pandemic, it's a reminder that vigilance and adaptability are crucial. We've taken steps forward, and so has the virus. It's a two-step of adaptation in the dance of evolution💃🦠 H/T nicolekarlis T. Ryan Gregory 🇨🇦 salon.com/2023/12/01/hig…

The Alabama IVF ruling isn't a legal decision, it's a theocratic bull masquerading as law. The new Christian fundamentalist clergy has left the pews and invaded the courts. We have to recognize what they're doing to stop them. My latest in The Nation thenation.com/article/societ…
