A few hundred articles later, the final of my three reports (really, reviews) on 'geography and ethics' is out. A pleasure to try and read across different fields of geography; inevitably too much missed owing to my own limitations and much yet to learn: journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/03…

New solo-author article! I show that formerly undocu/DACA immigrants encounter remnants of illegality even after acquiring legal status. These remnants, however, are not permanent—participants show signs of unlearning their illegality. Out now! SCMR tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

I swear to god, adults in the 90s were absolutely confident that if you didn’t learn to balance a checkbook, you’d never amount to anything and probably end up in prison. What ever happened to all those people who couldn’t balance checkbooks anyway.

This article, citing #Panama's migration service chief, notes that 8,000 people have migrated through the Darién Gap so far in August. That would be about 400 per day: fewest since Apr 2022. Far less than about 1,000/day during the first half of 2024 and >2,000/day last Aug-Sep.

Dara Lind's cogent new essay is a must-read synthesis of Project 2025's plan to use a second Trump administration to attack legal immigration, strip protections from victims of crime, and further weaponize the immigration system. Dara Lind Read it here: immigrationimpact.com/2024/08/23/wha…

When the Oxford children's dictionary discarded dozens of nature-words—"dandelion," "fern," "starling"—as irrelevant to children's imagination and replaced them with words like "broadband" and "cut-and-paste," this inspired act of resistance was born: themarginalian.org/2019/06/17/the…
