Let's talk about Urban Fires and our Fire & Rescue Service. We often complain that our FRS is slow in their response. Ever wonder why? 🧵

Strategically positioned fire stations, conditions of road networks, and availability of water are factors that determine the speed of the response & firefighting operations. When it comes to urban fire infrastructure, our FRS is in a position of strategic disadvantage.

We built cities and developed an existing one without taking fire infrastructure into consideration. Neither Male nor Hulhumale has fire stations strategically positioned to keep response time below 5 minutes.

What FRS has been given and labeled as "Fire Stations" are by no means anything close to what a modern FRS would need to run a life-saving operation. One is positioned in one end of Male. For Hulhumale, we have a "Mini" fire station because Housing Development Corporation does not have space for it

Hulhumale! An urban "Smart City" without a "Modern Fire Station" to support the vertical highrise housing concept that we so proudly keep promoting. Neither phase 1 nor Phase 2 has a working city fire hydrant system to support firefighting operations. So much for being smart!

Now, let's talk about the availability of water for firefighting. Fire vehicles carry a limited amount for initial response. No hydrants, so our FRS drafts its water supply from the lagoon surrounding Male. A time staking operation to relay water. Imagine doing that in Hulhumale!

This is what our FRS has been reduced to by political negligence for over 20 years. For me, our firefighters are exceptional heroes! Despite all that they have endured for so long, they would never surrender YOU to a fire! No better example of service above self! God bless!
