Today marked my first weekday Mass at St. Patrick's cathedral as Archbishop of New York. The first of many to come and I hope that one day soon, you’ll be able to join me at America’s Parish so we can celebrate together.

I was deeply saddened this morning to learn of the death of the Rev. Jesse Jackson, a towering figure in the cause for civil rights in this country, with an unwavering commitment to the God-given dignity of every human person. May he rest in God’s eternal peace.

When I was young, I had a paper route and sometimes had to knock more than once to collect payment. I knew they were home, so I kept knocking. Today, Jesus invites us to persevere in prayer. Don’t give up. Keep knocking.

I love being a priest. It is a gift that continues to shape my life in ways I never could have imagined. Some of the most formative years of my priesthood were spent living among vulnerable communities in Latin America.
