💡 In order to budget properly for your income, you need to categorize your spending based on wants & needs. Sometimes they overlap especially when one is accustomed to a want and sees it as a need. 🤭 ✔️ Needs are extremely necessary wants are not. #mondaythoughts #Mondayvibes

💡 Quick investment tip for the weekend, investing is a continuous process that requires you to research & review your investments every so often. ✨ Different Asset Classes offer varying returns. Re-evaluate periodically to ensure you're on the right track & pivot if necessary.

I’ve been seeing politicians talking about how the increase on import taxes is to protect and grow local industries. This strategy has been tried before; just after Kenya’s independence, and by the mid-1970’s had failed to work so badly that Kenya ended ip with the SAP’s.

And there is a whole other story related to this that has flown under the radar, and may explain the US’s / IMF’s keen interest in Kenya today. The end of the petrodollars agreement. On June 9th 2024, the Petrodollars agreement ended.

The petrodollar agreement was signed in 1974, amidst a whole raft of global macroeconomic changes, including floating the price of gold in 1971 that would later be ratified as the end of the Bretton Woods system by the Jamaica Accords in 1976, and the oil embargo in 1973.

Coincidentally (ADHD) while all this was happening, one Mwai Kibaki as Finance Minister would introduce one of, if no, the shortest Act of Kenya of the old constitution, in 1975: The National Assembly Remuneration Act, setting the stage for MP’s to determine their salaries.

How is all this connected? 1. Once MPs got the ability to set their remuneration, it shifted their focus from service to citizens to wealth acquisition. Can you imaginatively a job where you set your salary, and it’s the responsibility of everyone else to make it happen?
