Parents: Be careful when you try to teach your kids the word “sit” because their first word may end up being “shit” - A shit dad

My favourite study of "how often does a family with small children get a respiratory infection?" is this one, from the USA: doi.org/10.1093/cid/ci… Children <5y have one of 16 common respiratory viruses detected in a nasal swab 50% of the year!

Anyone have a good paper that shows how to approach multi-level analysis when the assumption of normality is violated? I’m seeing mixed feedback on pivoting the analysis or moving forward ignoring the assumption was violated. #IOPsych #Stats

When male and female employees perform at exactly the same level, managers prioritize kindness more when giving feedback to women. Sound nice? Unfortunately, "nice"feedback creates problems for everyone. @AneetaRattan (not that kind of Dr) Lily Jampol hbr.org/2023/01/women-…

What a great example of leadership. Whether on the field or at work, a leader’s job is to help their people thrive. Good on you, coach.

When the Louisiana State University football team loses in an upset, it causes judges in Louisiana to add 1,296 days of punishment to juvenile defendants (& 136 extra days of jail time!) as the judges are grumpy. Judges with degrees from LSU are harshest. aeaweb.org/articles?id=10…

Hello, this is reminder from a Gen Xer to the Boomers, Millennials & Gen Z that “generations” are not real. They are arbitrary. They don't let us predict how people work or act, they don’t explain skills differences, and they hurt our understanding of how people change over time

There’s a wave of fire-all-middle-managers sentiment going around. But good middle managers are vital to success, they translate strategy into action, but must balance that with employee needs and company constraints. That’s a hard job! Here’s a🧵 of research on why they matter

If anyone at #SIOP23 is looking for a session to attend at 10:30, I’d suggest visiting room 310 for a conversation on strategies (other than compensation!) to retain employees. #IOPsych

The difference is cohort effects vs life stage effects. Whereas the data supports significant differences between life stages, it suggests generations are more similar than different. But I’m not telling Dr. Twenge anything she doesn’t know :)
