#Aksumite conquest of the Kingdom of #Kush marks the end of the last great indigenous pharaonic style kingdom of the Nile. Vast amounts of ancient #African historical knowledge vanish, including records possibly older than many surviving #Egyptian accounts.

Coffin of King (Neferkha) Aspelta the Beloved of Amun-Ra. The granite sarcophagus (Nuri, #Sudan, c. 593–568 BCE) now rests in #Boston. Carved with hawk & jackal guardians, it shows the power of #Kushite kings even though his body & wooden coffins are lost. (looted)

If you stripped the crown and beard from Amenemhat I, and placed him among these Kushites whom carved in a #temple wall, he would blend right in because the #Egyptians and #Kushites were not different peoples. What made them “different” was #political messaging, not in reality.

From the Nile to the savannas, Nubians and Maasai speak languages thousands of miles apart, yet tiny echoes connect them. Ancient voices never fade. #Maasai #Nubians #Africa
