Every time I work with someone new to Elixir I need to reiterate that the Elixir Docs are actually good, and often better than a tutorial or StackOverflow. How many of these things did you already know about Elixir docs and Hex? fly.io/phoenix-files/…

I hadn’t realized how terrible the Facebook feed has gotten. I just scrolled it, and 3/40 posts (I counted) were actually from people i have friended. The rest were sponsored and “suggested for you” BS.

I’ve spent much of this year learning about car bloat, the process through which smaller vehicles are being replaced by increasingly massive SUVs and trucks. What I’ve learned: Huge cars are terrible for society, often in ways that are hidden. A summary 🧵

If your kid didn't use a balance bike, but wants to skip training wheels, just take the pedals off their big kid bike, and lower the seat. Use it as a balance bike for a week or two. This approach got my son riding in a week like a pro.

What’s with every podcast shilling for McDonalds these days. That QPC money must be real sweet these days. Are y’all really hurting that much for cash? Can’t we just stick to lame underwear commercials and stamps dot com?

Trying to get the correct (and working) version of PHP installed on my mac has been quite the task. Finally just bit the bullet and used Homestead which seems like such overkill, but worked.

A big downside of fantasy audio books is that I have no idea how things are spelled. Listening to Wheel of Time, and trying to google "Eye Said Eye", finally found it was "Aes Sedai".

Today's rabbit hole: GQL unions for input types. Seems like this should already be part of the spec, but there are years long debates and multiple RFCs around this topic with seemingly little movement towards a solution.

Sometimes I feel like learning is a game of Tetris, especially programming / math. You get all these pieces, and it can take a long time to get the "ahah" moment of understanding when you clear a bunch of rows. But, there are always more bricks coming down to screw with you!

I've been seeing a lot of backlash against GQL lately. If you have any sufficiently complex domain, it can simplify things. The typing system is great, but does have some shortcomings. I think there are anti-pattens I've seen in its usage, so maybe time for a blog post.
