Ukraine is the only fighting defender of Europe. Emmanuel Macron says it will take "decades" for Ukraine to join the EU. The Russian fascist regime is committing genocide against the Ukrainian people. France's president says the most important thing is not to "humiliate" Putin.

Putin and his army are not “cornered”. They could leave Ukraine at any time. Putin is a dictator. He does not need to “save face” in front of anyone. He could declare victory and order his troops home today, without any fear of someone or some group seeking to topple him.

These calls are idiotic and damaging to the cause of saving Ukrainian lives. Putin and, even more importantly, those around him, see him getting these calls and still being the big boss, making concessions less likely.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine 8 years ago escalated into a global war because of Western appeasement. Russian imperialism expanded to colonialism, mass deportation and genocide. To end the war now all Russian-occupied territory and all kidnapped/enslaved people must be liberated.

Putin looks to be ending 200 years of Swedish neutrality. "Strategic genius" indeed!

Before Macron and pundits like Haass and Ignatius speak more about ceasefires and Ukraine accepting occupation, they should tour Bucha, and consider what happens to Ukrainians in places occupied by Putin's forces.

In February 2015, during the Battle of Debaltseve, Putin knew he wasn't going to win. He got from Hollande and Merkel the Minsk "ceasefire" to consolidate gains. Now, Putin knows he can't win. He hopes to get from Macron and Scholz another "ceasefire" to consolidate gains.

A couple of things. 👉 I live in Ukraine. 👉 I like to think I'm not a total idiot. Taking those two factors into account, if there had been ANY serious "separatist" movement in the Donbas pre-2014, I'd have been aware of this discussion. I wasn't. Because there wasn't.

Amazingly, the appeasers, Macron, Scholz, Dragi & NYTimes, want to force Ukraine to give up land to Russia, while more than 90% of the Ukrainians want to fight to win & kick out the Russians from Ukraine. What moral right do these people have to state this drivel?
