Aaaand field experiment is a go! European Starlings <1 day old; you can still see their #eggtooth! Grumpy old man stage is a personal fav. Decoy egg (left) to record #incubation temp and specs on remaining eggs indicate mite #parasiteload of momma #fieldwork #research Keegan Stansberry

Worth a read. A fantastic, scathing opinion from The Reveille LSU's legal qualms, political fears won't protect campus from deadly virus lsureveille.com/opinion/editor…

Hot off the press! Telomeres, stress, life history evolution, and POT1 Sarah Wolf Kim Rosvall onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.111…
Congrats to Sarah Wolf, on her latest publication on the ecologically interesting gene POT1 and its potential role in telomere dynamics. This was a lot of hard work, including 2 awesome ugrad CISAB, Indiana University #REU co-authors. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.111…
New paper out with Kim Rosvall in Molecular Ecology's special issue on #telomeres in ecology and evolution! The telomere regulatory gene #POT1 maps onto fitness-related traits in a wild songbird. A🧵 onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.11…
In the chaos of prepping to defend, I forgot to share that a third chapter of my dissertation is out in Behavioral Ecology! Here we tested the 'classic' social aspect of the challenge hypothesis (does testosterone💪 go up after a social challenge?) in ♀️ birds doi.org/10.1093/beheco…
Meet the multi-talented Tosha Kelly, PhD (she/her) for a watercoloring break at the [email protected] and [email protected] booth during today’s poster session at #SICB2022!
There’s still time to sign up! If you’re in the Baton Rouge area and know an inquisitive middle schooler, this is the perfect event for them! Register for this awesome, free STEM program at this link: lsu.formstack.com/forms/crash_co… LSU Museum of NatSci @brown_birds
Telomeres, growth, & self-maintenance— the answer to eternal youth: Sarah Wolf & Kim Rosvall look at several tissues (brain, adrenals, blood, & liver) to assess the directionality & timing of relationships between growth & telomere length onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/je…
#SICB2023 talk from Keegan Stansberry: because birds usually manage synchronous hatching by not brooding until full clutch is laid, climate change can throw some interesting wrenches into the mix. Higher ambient temperatures can start incubating first laid eggs well ahead of schedule!
Awesome presentation about increasing nest temperatures and hatching asynchrony affecting nestling survival at #TWS2023 by Keegan Stansberry from the @c_lattin lab. Looking forward to investigating a similar question with my #RCWoodpecker nestlings!
IU IU EEB Graduate Program Evolution Ecology & Behavior is hiring in partnership with CISAB, Indiana University, in the area of Physiological Mechanisms of Animal Behavior. Apply by 10/7: indiana.peopleadmin.com/postings/25250
