Everytime there is an incident of racism in 🇨🇦 publicly funded health care system - racism which happens everyday, it needs to be named for what it is: publicly funded racism. Publicly funded racism requires publicly funded accountability, prevention, & justice for those harmed.

Amazing and insightful article that breaks down the upcoming roll out of “personal de-criminalization” and the ways in which its little more than lip service that ignores the needs and feedback of people who use drugs: 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼

decriminalization must become dismantling the police. & more its not about individuals and its not just about drugs its about dismantling a system founded on stolen land that is based on racial and economic inequality and ableist throughout its about building a better world

I don’t like telling people what to do but this is required reading if you want to understand what decrim in BC is going to look like (hint: not great)

A really brilliant analysis of BC's sorta kinda drug possession decrim, including the way it *increases* the role of police in the lives of drug users.

#Breaking: 2,272 were people killed by toxic drug poisonings in BC in 2022, making it the 2nd most fatal year recorded by 34 deaths (in 2021, 2,306 ppl died). The news comes as BC decriminalizes small amounts of some drugs today, which advocates say isn't enough to stop deaths.

Yesterday's "#decriminalization" was not enough. The people need real decrim. Not this incremental, unendorsed, performative bb step that only gives police and governments more power.

There are no new implemented rules and regulations or even training for police to appropriately and accurately do their job in regards to this new "#decriminalization" policy. Why do we pay them like they know what they're doing then?

People who use drugs probably couldn't accurately "eyeball" exactly 2.5g plus subtracting container weight... Why do we trust police to do so? Do police even know what different drugs look like when next to each other?

ȼi·katǂiʔtit ka·kin (Lexi Fisher) (@_lexifisher) 's Twitter Profile Photo

The over exaggerated trust, obedience and pedestalling of policeofficers is akin to that of doctors in this society and its fked. This is why #VPD thinks they can accurately eyeball 2.5g and doctors think they're the epitome of all healthcare. Time to #decolonize and be humble.

Solidarity with drug users in Campbell River. Our peers across the province are constantly besieged by stigma, hatred, and harm promoting policy. This bylaw is predictable and disgusting.

ȼi·katǂiʔtit ka·kin (Lexi Fisher) (@_lexifisher) 's Twitter Profile Photo

On day 2 of #BCdecrim: "This bylaw is for the protection and enhancement of the well-being of the community..." So people who use drugs aren't community members?

6 years to charge 5 members of the RCMP with manslaughter & obstruction after Indigenous man Dale Culver dies in police custody. Oh and 4of5 are still on active duty. Tell me again, police aren't racist and dangerous. #DefundALLPolice cbc.ca/news/canada/br…

I’ll add a ninth: many Native people are geographically bounded to rural areas, because that’s where our reservations are. We were deliberately displaced to rural areas by settlers. But today we have to forfeit our political and cultural sovereignty if we move to cities.

“Now they’re going to fight us all the way to the Supreme Court. When are they really going to start working with the families?” #VACFSS refuses to pay Indigenous mom after discriminating. Thankfully she has her bbs back but VACFSS is still taking others. indiginews.com/news/indigenou…
