Early career years are painful. You feel like an idiot 98% of the time - lost, confused and insecure. I wish I had a playbook on principles for my first job. So I put one together. Here are 9 threads packed with lessons about building a career I wish I knew sooner:

As they grow in size, teams within megacorps and startups tend to implicitly bias more towards Project Thinking and not enough Product Thinking. Product Thinking is a mindset and a process that, once you see, you cannot unsee it. Product Thinking, Project Thinking, a thread:

There is indeed a pretty wide contrast between the conversations (and often outcomes) when we are in Project Thinking mode vs. when we are in Product Thinking mode. Here’s a cheat sheet that can help us better understand how these modes differ and in what ways they are valuable:

I quit my job a few weeks ago with little to no experience to pursue a web3 career with nothing lined up. tldr; it worked. Today, I began my first day as a blockchain analyst Coinbase 🛡️. Here’s how: A guide to making that web2 ➡️ #WEB3 jump as seamless as possible. 🧵

Happy new year! Today, a mini-tweetstorm of some of the things I've said and written over the past decade, and what I think about those subjects today.

A fairly common bias in B2B is that we think our product plays a more central role in our customers’ work than is really the case. This makes us underestimate customers’ inertia & overestimate our product’s value prop. Easy to understand, but very hard to remember in the moment.

You'd think that tech startups with $1B, $4B, $6B, $10B, $17B valuations operate pretty well. In reality, many of these places are held together by duct tape. When inside: you can barely believe it. It's also why they pay the big bucks to hire people who sort lots of this out.

All Rules Are Made Up We're taught that we're supposed to: → Graduate college → Get a 9-5 job and stay there → Work for someone else for 40 years → Retire at 65 (if you're lucky) These are made up. Tech enables you to bend the world to your will.
