Just read Fitzgerald's short story "At Your Age" for the first time. It's remarkable how he anticipated at the age of 32 what it would feel like to be 50...

Just read Fitzgerald's 1929 short story 'The Swimmers'. About an ageing man whose wife cheats on him, while a younger model is already waiting in the wings. How convenient.

I finally started reading the 'The Basil and Josephine Stories'. 'That kind of party', the first one, according to the chronological order suggested by Basil's age, never got published during Fitzgerald's lifetime - and it's easy to see why.

However, 'A night at the fair' made up for the initial disappointment, as it showcases Fitzgerald at his best, with romantic yearning and bitter irony finely balanced.
