Andrea Zuvich Turner made this pencil and watercolour sketch of the 1517 Christ Church Gate in Canterbury in 1792. The empty niche is where a statue of Christ stood, until the iconoclasts under Edwin Sandys used it for target practice and then hauled the remains down in 1642-3🧵#StuartSaturday
