A Louisville exhibition honoring Breonna Taylor speaks "not only of the violence done to Black communities, but also of how Black communities are forced to participate in the many forms of violence committed against them," Brianna Harlan writes. artnews.com/art-in-america…

Photos of protests over Breonna Taylor's death anchored a show hung in her honor at the Speed Art Museum. "I looked for more local work after," Brianna Harlan writes. "Not all the stories were there, but those that were resonated like a protest chant." bit.ly/3vGGbl6

Joining us to talk about equity & inclusivity in the arts are Brianna Harlan & Marlesha S. Woods. You might remember Harlan's efforts to make Lou arts more equitable + the Louisville Art Scene Report she conducted last summer. More on that here: wfpl.org/this-artist-ha…

The next work in my thesis exhibition “Visiting Hours”: “Grounded” *how to keep both feet on the ground. Grounded: 1) well balanced and sensible, 2) restricted because of inappropriate behavior, 3) prohibited from flying

“Li Dreams” is the first work I made for this exhibition body of work. I think I was in a dream when I made it. Views of it at home and at show. Creation Date: December 2020. Materials/Techniques: Dead sunflower stalks, hand elderberry dyed cotton, foam, wood, found objects🛏🌀🍂

one of the wilder developments, @hanovercollege is honoring me with Distinguished Young Alumni Award. Thanks to everyone who nominated me. I thought the loves I made while there was my award, but this is a solid second. mama is geeked. 🖤🐾🏅

(1) most people I see calling themselves radical or revolutionary do not move when it’s time to learn or do something dangerous to the system as a whole. self-liberation disconnected from the same system that crushes us all is opportunism, not revolution.

Brianna Harlan (@_briannaharlan) 's Twitter Profile Photo

(2) Which do you want more: to be valued in this system or see its end? Most haven’t learned the distinction in that. Most aren’t in the true behavior of their wildest dreams.

Brianna Harlan (@_briannaharlan) 's Twitter Profile Photo

(3) to want to be valued by it 1st and see it’s end 2nd, is to ask the oppressor to acknowledge your worth as a means to liberate you. the reverse priority is to abolish the system whether it’s “ready” or not and then build it to value everyone.

Brianna Harlan (@_briannaharlan) 's Twitter Profile Photo

(4) we all want to be valued in this lifetime but what’s your order of priority? and who all does it include (to thoroughly abolish a system your answers should be “everyone” even if your work/focus is your immediate community).
