Excellent day at the coast on Saturday recording Filey Museum whilst it's closed for refurbishment. Ground floor of calcareous sandstone, upper storey brick. Datestone of 1696, described in Pevsner as the most ornate in the East Riding. Formerly a farmhouse with farmyard at rear.

Looking forward to our next event, a walk around the vernacular buildings of the Upper Holme Valley on Saturday. We'll explore the landscape and will see farmhouses, handloom weavers' cottages, agricultural buildings and small scale industrial buildings. yvbsg.org.uk/events.html.

Now speculating whether we might have that rare thing - genuine ships' timbers reused in a building - in Filey Museum building. A purlin and ceiling beam look decidedly mast-like, and other timbers have a multitude of pegholes difficult to explain in a house. Just need proof now!

Our walk to look at the vernacular buildings of the Upper Holme Valley scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed due to the weather warnings, hopefully to be rearranged on a day without risk of torrential rain and thunderstorms!

Our next event is a visit to the Pendle countryside on Saturday 2 August 2025. We'll be spending a day in this interesting part of Lancashire viewing the exteriors of a variety of buildings dating from the 16th century onwards. Full details at yvbsg.org.uk/events.html.

Many of the buildings we record are of a more modest nature but now and again we take on the challenge of a larger, higher status, building! Here are some of the grander houses we have recorded over the years: Ingleby Manor, Knedlington Old Hall, Well Hall, and Hammerton Hall.

Great day on Saturday exploring the Pendle area of Lancashire with J Kevin Illingworth. Farmhouses, barns, churches and plenty of round-headed mullion windows - with the added bonus of sunshine and stunning scenery too. Well worth crossing the county border from Yorkshire!

#WindowsOnWednesday Lower Horse Wood Farm, Lumbutts. Why stick with one hoodmould stop design when you can have a different one at each end!
