#Afforestation is key for #climatechange mitigation, #biodiversity & #nature conservation, but in semiarid areas its potential is limited by #soilmoisture. We found #soil desiccation trends in #LoessPlateau after planting non-native tree species👉doi.org/10.1007/s11368…

So impressive, five professor from Indecol is ranked top 2% researchers, (Prof. Edgar Hertwich is listed as 63 in the field of Environmental Sciences (not included in the list below because he is ranked with his former affiliation).) Very proud to work in this team!

(1/6) Have you seen our new paper on recent global #land cover dynamics? We found 722 million hectares of land cover changes between 1992 and 2018. Good work Xiangping Hu! NTNU IndEcol Cristina_Iordan Bo Huang Francesco Cherubini doi.org/10.1016/j.ance…

One of the striking insights is sharp shrinkage in global #wetlands: -29 Mha (about the size of Italy!), mostly in boreal ecosystems. Main drivers are #climatechange and excessive water withdrawals and nutrient loads. Curious to know if trends from ground data confirm this scale

Among other #ecosystemservices, wetlands are key for #biodiversity. They can be as rich as rainforests in terms of number and variety of species supported

#Didyouknow that in the last 30 yrs the deforested area caused by agriculture expansion is approx. 4 times the size of France (242Mha)? And settlements expansion increased by 210%? Read more about global land cover changes from 1992-2018 in our last paper bit.ly/3mD9NMt

Just discovered that I live in the only place that is apparently immune to #globalwarming... Mixed feelings, especially in summer time #Trondheim

BECCS deployed on abandoned and degraded cropland can co-deliver negative emissions and other environmental benefits. We compared the climate benefits of liquid biofuel production with natural regrowth at high spatial resolution (1km) in the Nordics. 1/n sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Supply-chain emissions considered were on-farm related activities and biomass transportation. LCA emissions from the on-farm activities were spatially quantified. More details are provided in this recent publication: sciencedirect.com/science/articl… 15/

#Moose play a role in carbon cycle and #globalwarming with complex links with #biodiversity and #forestry. Moose eat birch - important tree species for biodiversity - and by so favor the growth of spruce (unpalatable), which is of high market value👉 norwegianscitechnews.com/2023/03/moose-…
