The very fact that Harvie and his toxic Greens backing him is a major red flag.

Kate Forbes is a very credible candidate, honest, principled and clearly very capable however her support and advocacy of Freeports thereby enabling the continued plunder of our economy makes it impossible to support her in any contest. I suspect a great many share that view.

John Swinney is hugely respected across our party but the lesson of the last year is that the SNP needs a complete reset. We must go forward not backwards. Kate was right when she said that continuity would not cut it. The next leader must deliver change.

The rush from the 'men in grey kilts' to crown John Swinney even before other contenders have thrown their hats in to the ring can only mean one thing. They want continuity - not for the sake of Scotland or SNP but simply to keep their own overpaid jobs and careers on track.

Listening to Patrick Harvie on Newsnight convinces me that the Greens must never be given any power in the Scottish Govt ever again. Their policies are regressive not progressive.
