It feels like the extreme weather we’re experiencing & its impact on nature & the food supply should be being mentioned (at all) in our national conversation. These are all field of *crops*.

We’re looking at the first ‘year without harvest’ on my farm, with only c.10-15% currently cropped & surviving, but very low quality after winter. Heavy 🌧️ again today. Extreme weather overcoming decades of investment in healthier soils. A real crisis point & wake up call.

Having been in the climate business for over 20 years I’ve lost count of the wake up calls we’ve had. We haven’t woken up yet.

St Sunday’s beck is looking amazing right now We are lucky to have over a mile and a half of it flowing through our farm. The white-water crowfoot will soon be a mass of flowers and I reckon this year it’s going to be better than ever 🙂 *Sound on for some pure chill 💚

Giving another bump to this important thread. I’ve had similar private messages from other women and girls. If wanting better than this 👇🏼 for the next generation of farming women makes me ‘woke’, then absolutely, give me that badge. I’ll wear it with pride.

With all the hate and horror on here at the moment I’m so glad I live in the countryside away from the madness and taking photos of flowers rather than thugs #wildflowers #moorland #farmingwithnature

Great pod from the excellent Rachel Donald. Consistent with my recent critiques of renewable energy transition & urbanism. I'm not entirely convinced by the 4th dimension ltd idea, but the basic thermodynamics & localism/soft energy ring true. Long term view: agrarian localism!

No one has listened - but right from the start the protests were about more than IHT The media reporting of the protests has been appalling for this very reason They only report is when Clarkson attends or it’s about tax avoidance

The latest goverment guff about farming is… “The problem with farming is the lack of profitability” This is a short thread on why this sensible-sounding focus should be treated with great suspicion… A 🧵

We haven’t had a drop of rain for about a month For third time in recent years we’ve gone from late winter bare to drought bare with no spring flush of moisture We’re managing because we manage grazing and stockpile for May, but way behind on growth of a normal year
