Remember Us, by Hilda K. Gibson. "But rising in the morning mist and toiling in the summer haze. This time was ours – a job well done – we will remember all our days." buff.ly/3Sx8hNJ

"In the farmyard and the forest we are bravely doing our bit, Some are milking cows for England, some the giant oak trees split." This poem was written by K.M.E. Gotelee and published in The Landswoman, March 1918. It was written to the tune of ‘Keep the Home Fires Burning’.

✉️ A WLA Christmas card probably sent by a Land Girl called Audrey in 1949. This WLA card appears to have been published by Raphael Tuck and Sons to mark the 10 year anniversary of the Second World War WLA in 1949. womenslandarmy.co.uk/ww2-christmas-… Source: Catherine Procter Collection

Last Friday, I handed in my PhD thesis on the history of scrapbooking! 📚🎉🎨 Of course, an appropriate way to celebrate was to take a trip to Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse to see my sister, Skye Knights at work and to enjoy the delights of Gressenhall’s WLA room and farm!

80 years ago, Eileen Mark and fellow lumberjills helped prepare for D-Day. She told me that on rainy days, they spent their time in the barn making D-Day landing track way out of chestnut poles and wire. So tanks and vehicles could pass over the sand on the Normandy beaches.#dday

Today we mark 80 years since the D-Day landings, remembering the service and sacrifice of all those involved in turning the tide in the Second World War. 1/3

Plenty of snippets about #WLA Women's Land Army in this pod. Vera was Organising Secretary for WLA in W.Kent & a huge amount of detail survives in her letters. In 1939 WLA was planning for Land Girls to do threshing in 1940, but Vera was half hoping the war would be over by then

Mother was a dairy maid with the Women's Land Army in St Fagans and once milked a cow without putting the safety chain across the back. It didn’t end well!! 🐮🤕 This photo is from North Yorkshire in the 1890s
