This is our team of expert arborists safely and carefully removing an old beech tree near a busy arboretum path.

Its decline was monitored for a few years, with sad decision to remove due to ongoing decay. A new young #tree will soon replace it.

Stoat or a weasel – do you know the difference?

We do. We’re excited to have spotted stoats & weasels here at Westonbirt. Our #springwatch camera captured an elusive stoat, to help show which is which. 👀

A special sight this week is Sargent's cherry on Broad Drive. Flowers appear for just a few days. 🌸

Planted 100 years ago, it is very old for a cherry tree, generally not long-lived trees. Now supported by wooden braces.

#DYK Some species of birds source building material from mammals to insulate their nests. The process of taking hair & fur is called kleptotrichy. We captured this in action here at Westonbirt the other day📽️

This is the time to look out for a brimstone butterfly.

It is fairly large and pale-yellow with leaf-shaped wings.

Seen on sunny #spring days, in ones or twos, they are found along woodland rides and mature hedgerows, and here in parts of Silk Wood. 🦋
