Last autumn we installed brushwood berms to the Itchen Navigation. Here's the project lead Andy explaining some of the benefits to this technique.
Electric fishing surveys later in the year should reveal any local changes to salmonid recruitment. ๐ŸŸ

The Trust made a splash on the Cranborne Chase this winter ๐Ÿ’ฆ.

Blocking this historically perched and channelised reach of winterbourne will encourage it to spill into the floodplain, re-wetting meadows and creating new complex ephemeral channels.

Native willow trees in flower along your local river! They're a special early resource for pollinators. You may also notice the catkins vary, this is because unlike some trees, the willow is dioecious, meaning plants are either female or male.

Great to see some new native trees ๐ŸŒณ(Alder & Willow) planted along the river Test near Bransbury๐ŸŒค๏ธ.
These trees will provide food and habitat to a myriad of different taxa including birds, bats and even fish! ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿฆ‡๐ŸŸ

The surprising energy of ephemeral winterbourne (winter flowing)

A small blockage (red) on this ford caused scour, throwing up gravel (green), diverting the stream out of its artificially bunded/perched channel (orange) and back into its natural floodplain course.
