I wish that you could see what it looks like when a young mother dies from AIDS. The flushed skin, the wet rattle of fluid-filled lungs with every breath. I think most people would be a lot less callous about PEPFAR and USAID being destroyed if you could see it.

Appreciate the reporting here. The challenge for PEPFAR is 3-fold at this point: 1. Funding for approved/waiver programs doesn't seem to be flowing across the board. 2. Many programs that are worthwhile have been permanently terminated 3. New budget threatens to cut what's left.

How can we engage our own loneliness and respond to the epidemic of social isolation and loneliness around us? I enjoyed being in conversation about this with Marcus Goodyear and Camille Hall-Ortega on The Echoes Podcast HEBFDN: hebfdn.org/echoes/the-ech…

To those who are struggling or considering suicide, here is the message of Christian faith: You matter. You are loved. Your life has meaning and value. Don’t give up. There is hope for your future. Do not harm yourself, for we are all here. Christianity Today christianitytoday.com/2025/05/do-not…

It is always a privilege to speak with pastors about mental health care and the role of the church. I especially appreciated this conversation with Chris McAlilly and Eddie Rester on The Weight Podcast. theweightpodcast.com/episodes/we-ar…

When I ask patients about religious communities, I learn something important about what and whom my patients love and where they find hope, even in the hard situations when love has been betrayed and hope seems distant. And I'm grateful for the trust that we build together.

Congrats to Duke Theology, Medicine, Culture TMC alum Micah Rojo on this paper about how medical systems make it hard to talk directly about death, and the role of the nurse as a "courageous truth-teller." onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.11…
