Due to safety training for park staff, Kīlauea Visitor Center will open late at 11am on Wednesday February 21, 2024. Morning ranger programs at Uēkahuna are also cancelled.

Mauna Loa Summit and Cabin are closed due to dangerous wind speeds with gusts expected up to 75 mph. Red Hill Cabin is open.

A construction project to remove the buildings at Kīlauea summit damaged by the 2018 eruption and summit collapse has started. Visitors should expect reduced parking, entrance delays and congestion - especially if we have an eruption.

Mauna Loa summit is open. The strong and dangerous winds have backed off.

The Summit Cabin is open to permit holders via the 'Āinapō Trail, but a section of Mauna Loa Trail above Red Hill Cabin remains closed due to damage and hazards from the 2022 eruption.

Due to elevated seismic activity and inflation at the summit of Kīlauea volcano, Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park is temporarily closing specific trails, viewing areas, and parking lots until further notice. Visit the park website for more information. nps.gov/havo/index.htm

We remain hopeful that Congress will act to fund the government. Access and visitor services would be available on Sunday, Oct. 1. Beginning Monday, Oct. 2, all national parks would close, and visitors should expect services to be unavailable.
