It's spring in Yellowstone, you know what that means... BABY ANIMALS!
As cute and fuzzy as they are, be sure to give wildlife room, use a zoom. Always maintain a distance of at least 100 yards (91m) away from bears/wolves, and at least 25 yards (23m) away from all other animals.

You might not think much about it whenever you flush a toilet or turn on a faucet during your park visit. But for Jason Murphy, utility systems facility manager, that’s his job!

In honor of , we want to take this opportunity to thank our dedicated webcam volunteers who remotely steer the Old Faithful live-streaming webcam to view geyser eruptions as well as wildlife in the basin, like these wolves last February.

Give wildlife room, use a zoom! The safest way to view wildlife is through a telephoto lens, a spotting scope, or a pair of binoculars. Don't approach, follow, or feed any animal. Stay 100 yards from bears and wolves and 25 yards from all other animals.

What’s a “bear box?” It’s the nickname for bear-resistant food storage containers. Bear boxes are a primary tool we use to protect bears in the park and we’re working towards our goal of having one installed in each of the parks nearly 2,000 sites.

One of the park’s most entertaining species is coming out of its burrows no matter the weather. Uinta ground squirrels have been hibernating since the middle of last July, and now they have a lot to do. After all, there’s only about three months until hibernation!

The night sky has inspired us for generations. Nighttime views and environments are among the critical Yellowstone features we protect. The night sky is more than a scenic canvas–it’s part of a complex ecosystem that supports both natural and cultural resources.

When you optimistically put away your winter clothes and hope for the best…

The Snowshoe hare's white winter coat offers camouflage in snow. By summer, its coat will be fully gray. During spring? Let’s just say it’s a bit of an awkward phase.

Did we fool with our April 1 post? Visitor reports of rare animals help biologists learn more about them. But sometimes nature does the fooling. There was the crocodile that turned out to be a floating log and multiple ostrich reports that turned out to be Great Blue Herons. 😁
