Personally I think it's a great idea. I think some structure should be available and a mantra of "do no harm with data" is an important one to adopt with respect to how data is collected, analyzed, and presented. Will that remove shady practices within the DS community?

Of course not. Just like we still have shady doctors and lawyers. But I feel that it will create a foundation and then people can choose to specialize in a field just like how it's done in law and medicine.
