Barry Kessler welcomes today's Virginia Sports Field Management Association Regional Field Day crowd at Cavalier Manor. Josh Marden kicks us off today and the first statement he makes is MOST important (& often forgotten): "All measurements on this baseball field start with the apex of home plate". #vaturf

Patrick Coakley & Kenny Magner on infield skin mgt @ Virginia Sports Field Management Association Field Day in Portsmouth. Things I heard: "Appropriate grade is KEY. Never drag the same way twice. Stay on top of the lips- just adding more material is NOT always the answer. Laser grading is worth every penny."

A song from my youth comes to mind, Jesse Pritchard: "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing" (youngsters look it up... some smooth R&B). Wow! Congrats & thanks to you & your team in providing Virginia Football an exceptional quality, safe, natural playing surface. Virginia Sports Field Management Association SFMA

Great photo Tom Kuhar. Lots of reasons to be on the watch for fall armyworms around the Commonwealth now, so keep your eyes open and be prepared to treat as warranted. Travis Roberson sent this picture yesterday from a control box at Independence. #vaturf #fallarmyworm
