Today’s International Space Station resupply rocket launching from @NASA_Wallops will release 63 small satellites into low-Earth orbit. Students will collect and analyze data transmitted by the satellites for about 5 days before the ThinSats burn up in re-entry. #Cygnus

3...2...1... LIFTOFF! The Northrop Grumman CRS-11 mission successfully lifted off from VCSFA_MARS's Pad 0A. Faring separation is confirmed and Cygnus is now on its way to the International Space Station.

Remote cameras looking at Pad 0A caught this look at Antares lifting off from the launch pad. The Northrop Grumman CRS-11 missions successfully launched at 4:46 p.m. ET.

Today in 1959-“Mercury 7” begin training at NASA Langley. Soviets shocked the world with Sputnik in '57. Yuri Gagarin became 1st man in space in '61, though Mercury's John Glenn orbited 3 times in '62. The space race continued as the 2 superpowers competed to land on the moon.
